“Coexist”, Sterling Silver and Copper Reticulated, Forged and Fabricated Cicada Neck Piece

Heading to work the other day  I was stopped behind someone who had one of those coexist bumper stickers. You know the ones where the letters represents different religions and symbols of peaceful harmony. I tucked that word, coexist, into my brain and thought about human’s persistent hope and promise of coexistence…the same hope that has been raised since the earliest records of history. It feels to me that politics, religion, art , academia and culture both simultaneously hold high the ideals of coexistence and then erode its promise at the same time. The world table, more than ever it seems, could use a giant helping of coexistence. My work certainly reflects what I’m feeling and thinking about and this piece echos, in my way, these recent thoughts. The pendant on this piece measures 4.5” from top of circular bale to base of cicada wings by 2.5” at the widest and the chain is adjustable from 15.5” to 19.5”.
